Tweets from the Storm: Victims of This Weekend’s Rare October Nor’easter Use Social Media to Share Stories and Photos

Posted by erik devaney

As was the case when Tropical Storm Irene tore through the region, New Englanders are turning to Twitter to share their photos of the damage; their witty assessments of the storm;  and — of course — the anger they are feeling towards their utility companies.

Over the weekend, well over a million New Englanders lost power as a result of an unusual October Nor’easter. The storm’s wet, heavy snow clung to fall foliage, pulling down branches and entire trees and wreaking havoc on power lines in the process.

Every state in New England felt the storm’s impact in one way or another, and residents of these states have been flooding the Twittersphere in order to share their ordeals with the world.

Below is what @JoeCascio describes as a “horror photo” from Danbury, Connecticut. The photo was taken by @golfgirl.

Here are before and after photos taken by @kpatchy out in Western Massachusetts.

@Kreig303 shared the below photo of a Starbucks in Connecticut. It was clear to @Kreig303 that without power, many residents are turning to local restaurants and cafes for food.

@MelissaTraynor, also of Connecticut, discovered this downed tree on Long Hill. Her TwitPic prompted @ajfournier6 to comment, “Oh, so that’s why I don’t have power.”

And finally, check out this photo of a downed tree in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which was taken by @jaclyncashman.

While many New Englanders took the time to Tweet out pics, a much greater number took to Twitter just to share their thoughts on the storm; which they accomplished using the hashtags #snotober and #snowtober. Here are a few highlights:
