Conn. Town Battles Over Home Helicopter Landing

BURLINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut town is caught in a dispute over plans by a resident to land his helicopter at his house.
The Hartford Courant reports that residents want town officials to ban “aviation activity” in residential areas to prohibit Paul Blanchette from landing the helicopter at his new home as he did at his previous residence in Burlington.
Blanchette said he has built a storage building with a concrete helipad in his yard. He said he’s flown near the house and hovered to test the flight path, but hasn’t yet landed there. He has a heliport at his business in Bristol.
A neighbor, Paul Stadler, worries that a helicopter accident could start a forest fire in a nearby nature conservancy.
First Selectwoman Catherine Bergstrom said town ordinances do not explicitly address aviation activities in residential areas.
