Good news for Bay State shoppers. Governor Deval Patrick just approved a sales tax free weekend set for August 13-14th. This will eliminate the 6.25 percent tax on items sold for less than $2,500.

Supporters claim this really boosts the economy at an otherwise slow time of year. Retailers really appreciate this driving force to get shoppers into the malls instead of tanning on the beach. Parents say it will be great for back to school shopping!!!

Critics of these sales tax free weekends claim the holiday costs the state about $20 million that could be used to pay for other services.

This would be the state’s seventh tax holiday in the past eight years.
