Conn. Official Finds No Interference in Union Vote

Hartford, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s attorney general says the state email system was not improperly used, contradicting claims by public employee unions that accused a conservative think tank of interfering with the ratification of a labor savings and concessions deal.

Attorney General George Jepsen said Thursday he’s closing the investigation.

The State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition said the Hartford-based Yankee Institute obtained improper access to the state email system to spread false information about an agreement with the Malloy administration. The agreement, which called for concessions and cost savings, did not win enough support among workers to avoid layoffs.

Fergus Cullen, executive director of the Yankee Institute, said in a statement that the union wasted Jepsen’s time.

The union said in a statement it’s disappointed that the state email program does not bar messages from outside the system.
